The project will support around 15,000 farmers to adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water management practice that cuts methane emissions, and is expected to generate up to 2 million verified carbon credits.
Singapore / Paris, 3 November 2026
LŌ-GOI Group, through its Renewable Infrastructure division, and its joint venture partner hummingbirds, is delighted to announce the signing of a strategic partnership memorandum of understanding (MOU) with A An Food JSC, a Vietnamese rice producer, processor and exporter, to develop a large-scalesustainable low-emission rice project in the Mekong Delta.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group focused on the private sector, is supporting A An, LŌ-GOI and hummingbirds on this expansion. The initiative builds on IFC’s advisory partnership with A An, launched in 2023 to improve the quality and sustainability of its rice supply chain, including through low-carbon farming practices. Under the new partnership, the joint venture will invest in helping farmers in A An’s supply chain adopt low-emission practices across approximately 30,000 hectares.
This partnership embodies our conviction that the built environment and nature must decarbonize together: by supporting low-emission rice farming that generates quality, high-integrity verified carbon credits, the LŌ-GOI and hummingbirds JV, with A An, are taking a concrete, measurable step to remove the embodied carbon of our developments across our existing and future Vietnam and Singapore properties — turning our footprint into a driver of shared prosperity for farming communities. – Trent Iliffe, Chief Executive Officer, LŌ-GOI Group
Community and environmental impact
- Empowering local farmers: The project will financially benefit around 15,000 farmer households from the local communities, providing them with sustainable farming practices, training, incentives, and access to premium markets.
- Climate action: By adopting AWD, the project aims to deliver measurable greenhouse gas emission reductions, with the potential to generate up to 2 million verified carbon credits over its lifetime, subject to applicable verification, certification and regulatory requirements.
- A share of the credits will be used to offset LO-GOI’s properties’ embodied carbon and corporate operations footprints in Vietnam.
- Another share will do the same for its activities in Singapore.
- Some credits may also be sold to multinational corporations, several of which have already expressed interest.
- The potential use, allocation and transfer of any carbon credits generated by the project will be determined in accordance with applicable Vietnamese laws, relevant international standards, and the necessary regulatory approvals, where required.
“This partnership brings together what low-emission rice needs to scale: A An’s farmer network, IFC’s support on the ground, and a long-term offtake and financing through our joint venture with LŌ-GOI. Our role is to lead the project’s design and carbon development, so it delivers measurable results for the climate and lasting value for farming communities.” – Damien Ricordeau, Co-founder, hummingbirds
Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals
The project contributes to six of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 2, Zero Hunger: supports sustainable rice production, ensuring food security for local communities
- SDG 5, Gender Equality: aims to promote inclusive participation of women in farming and decision-making processes.
- SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation: reduces water usage through AWD, improving water efficiency in rice cultivation and reducing water pollution with controlled chemical use.
- SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth: creates enhanced economic opportunities for 15,000 farmer households through secured rice offtakes, reduced upfront production costs and premium pricing.
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production: encourages sustainable and resilient farming practices while reducing environmental impacts.
- SDG 13, Climate Action: reduces methane emissions from rice cultivation, quantified and independently verified as credits.
Project development and investment
The project will be developed and financed through LO-GOI’s recently announced joint venture with hummingbirds, a leader in the development and financing of nature-based carbon solutions. This collaboration combines local expertise, global standards, and innovative financing to ensure the project’s success and scalability.
